Are you aware of the latest blogging trends?

If you’re new to the blogging world, then the first thing you should know is that Blogging has changed a lot in the past decade.

Blogging Trends

What started as online journals has now evolved into one of the most powerful tools for businesses.

The benefits of blogging are just unlimited. For example, blogging helps you to expand your professional network, gain online influence, and find new clients.

A study also revealed that B2B companies with a blog reported 67% more leads.

According to the Content Marketing Institute, 4 out of 5 websites now use blogs for marketing.

But, since there are over 1 billion websites on the internet, building a successful blog may seem impossible.

Whether you already have a blog or thinking to start one, it’s imperative to keep with the new trends to stay in the competition.

And since the new year is approaching, I thought it would be a perfect time to look ahead and see how blogging will grow in the year 2020.

In this article, I have shared the top 5 blogging trends that will shape the blogging industry in 2020.

Top Blogging Trends for 2020

The blogging world is crowded. But that doesn’t mean that there is no room for new blogs to grow.

You can most certainly become a successful blogger even if you launch a new blog today.

Fortunately for you, I have recently discovered top blogging trends that’ll help you build an authentic, loyal, and engaged audience for your blog.

With that being said, let’s dive right in!

Trend #1 – Long-Form Content

Gone are the days when blogging used to be about writing 300-400 words blog posts.

A decade ago, it was easy to find an audience, even for 300 words blog posts as there was not much competition.

Today, however, a 300 words blog post no longer works, which is why most bloggers are now writing blog posts with an average word count of 1200 words and more.

As you can see in the graph above, long-form blog posts tend to deliver better results than blog posts with less than 500 words.

Reason?

It’s because today’s online readers prefer reading a long-form guide to extract all the information they need from one place, rather than waste their time reading 10 different posts.

Apart from readers’ engagement, Google also tends to rank long-form blog posts on higher positions in its SERPs.

Just go and check Google search results for any keyword and you’ll notice that most of the top 5 results will have 1500+ words of content.

Brian Dean, the founder of Backlinko, recently analyzed 1 million Google search results and discovered that the average word count of the top 10 search results contains 1890 words.

Trend #2 – Frequency Matters!

“Publish at least one blog post every day.”

You must have heard this probably a thousand times but not by me so I will say it too!

Publish one blog post every day!

The data agrees too.

According to the same study by OrbitMedia, 60-68% of bloggers who publish daily have experienced strong results.

HubSpot also says that businesses that publish 16+ blog posts per month have secured 3.5x times more traffic and 4.5x times more leads than businesses that publish inconsistently.

Now, before you bash out on me in the comment section about this, just hear me out.

I know I told you to write long-form blog posts. And I also know that writing 1500+ words of content every day is not easy, especially when you’re blogging part-time.

And if this is the case, you can still win at blogging by publishing on a consistent basis.

What I mean is that if you cannot write and publish 1500+ words of content every day, then you should try and publish at least 2-3 blog posts every week.

In short, Blogging today is a ‘quantity with quality’ game.

Trend #3 – Website Speed

Let’s face it. Us humans are impatient creatures. And therefore, website speed is an extremely important factor for any blog to be successful.

Just think about it. Whenever you open a website that takes forward to load, how does that make you feel?

If you’re anything like me, it would most probably be either anger or frustration.

And when you get angry because of the slow website speed, do you stick around or wait until it is loaded?

Probably not.

You would rather go to another website, correct?

The point is, today people are very impatient and they most certainly don’t wait for a slow website to load.

A study also revealed that 57% of internet users abandon a website if the site takes more than 3 seconds to load.

Another study revealed that if a website takes more than 3 seconds to load, then the probability of the users to bounce triples, reaching a whopping 90% bounce rate.

So, make sure that your website loads within 3 seconds or your visitors will most definitely lose interest in your blog.

You can check the website load speed of your blog using Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool.

Trends #4 – Integrate Videos in Your Blog Posts

Online video consumption has exploded in the past 3 years.

Today, an average person spends 84 minutes watching online videos and a forecast by Zenith says that this time is only going to increase in the coming years.

Video Content

YouTube also has 1.5 billion active users watching online video content.

But how does it relate to blogging?

Well, integrating videos in your blog posts can get you better results in terms of engagement and time spent on your blog.

The OrbitMedia study also revealed that blog posts with videos gave the strongest results.

So, how should you be integrating videos in your blog posts?

While most bloggers recommend integrating videos available on the internet, but if you really want to take advantage of videos, you should better make your own video.

Now I know that not all people like to feature themselves in videos and the good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way.

You can also create animated videos, which will still help you in increasing engagement on your blog posts.

You can use online animated video maker tools such as Biteable or Moovly.

Trend #5 – List Posts Perform Better (Research proves it!)

Backlinko founder Brian Dean recently advised publishing as many list posts as possible in one of his blog posts.

According to Buzzsumo’s research, list posts get the most social shares.

And if you think about it, it makes sense because we love a specific number of tips or tactics on a single page and that’s why list posts perform so well.

But is there a reason why I numbered this article “5 blogging trends” specifically?

Answer: Yes, there is!

Turns out what number you assign to your post headline matters just as much.

Buzzsumo found that a list post with number 10, 5, 15, and 7 tend to drive high engagement to a blog post.

Buzzsumo

But besides the number, there are 3 reasons why list posts perform better than other types of headlines.

  1. Numbers help to stand out and easily grab readers’ attention.
  2. List posts provide specific, memorable, and valuable information to readers.
  3. The list nature of sub-headings helps to sum up the post content succinctly.

Overall, the list post trend is a long-time honored tactic, which will continue to rise in the year 2020.

Concluding Thoughts…

Even though video content is exploding right now, blogging will never go out of style.

While getting eyeballs on your blog isn’t easy, but keeping in mind these 5 blogging trends will help you in enticing new visitors to stick to your blog.

So, roll up your sleeves and start applying these blogging trends right away!
