A Comparison Of The Huawei Ascend D2 And HTC One X+

Through the CES 201, Huawei delivered three cracking phones at three different levels.  HTC have rebounded off to some criticisms over the last few years. They are looking to release their cheapest phone on Android to the Chinese market shortly and are diversifying their range.

So let’s see how these two phones stack up on their internal features, their display, their dimensions, and come to an overall conclusion.

The Internals and the Features of the Phones

The Ascend D2 has been provided with a quad-core 1.4 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage.  It has no HD card slot unfortunately. With its 13-megapixel camera and quality video processing it would be possible to get through the 32GB in time.

The HTC One X+ is of slightly lower specifications on the RAM offering just 1GB, but it has a superior 1.7GHz quad-core processor and up to double the onboard storage at 64GB, depending on whether you go for the higher or lower models.  The camera is only 8-megapixels compared to 13-megapixels on the Huawei although it does have some pretty excellent photographic features.

Overall on internals, the Huawei Ascend D2 trumps the HTC One X+

The Displays

The HTC One X+ has a pretty good display.  It is a 4.7-inch super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen and has a pixel density of 312PPI.  The display facilitates multi-touch input and is extremely responsive.

The Ascend D2 is however a superior screen with 1080 x 1920 and 5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, its pixels-per-inch are 441.  It also provides water and dust resistance.

Again on the display, Huawei Ascend D2 are the unequivocal winner.

The Dimensions and Appearance

There’s only a few millimetres between the two devices.  The Huawei measures 140 x 71 x 9.4 mm and the HTC 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm.  The Huawei is far weightier at 170g compared to the HTC 135g.  Of course, they both look very different and it’s down to personal preference which you prefer.  One is white and minimal, and the other black and chic.

You will have use your subjective judgement to decide which you prefer.  For me, on the dimensions and look it is a draw.

Overall Conclusion

In conclusion, the Huawei Ascend D2 performs better on a number of dimensions.  The two phones are very closely matched but the D2 wins this race.

The increasingly popular manufacturer from China has released some really cracking  phones this year and the D2 looks set for success in the market.  It will be interesting to see how the new entrants do over the coming year, and whether HTC in particular can rise at the challenge.

HTC have created some pretty stunning phones over the last 6 months or so.  But their place in the market remains in jeopardy with the increased competition and the brand loyalty held by Samsung and Apple.
