Five Tips for Writing Content for your Blog
4 minutes | Word Count: 614While there are many important aspects of a blog, a blog’s content is by far the most important. After all, it’s the content itself that readers are most interested in. It doesn’t matter if the content is related to a company’s products, current events, book reviews, or pop culture; when someone is looking for a particular bit of information, they tend to look toward blogs that address the matter and when their interests align with the content of your blog, there’s a huge chance of them finding their way to it. Therefore, content, above anything else, is the best SEO tool available, as that is what is drawing in the majority, if not all, of your readers.
Because content is such an important matter, here are five tips to make certain that the content you provide is the best it can be:
1. Make it interesting
For every topic out there, readers have many blogs to choose from. One of the best way to make sure they are reading your blog versus a competitor blog is to have content that is informative, interesting, well-researched and free of all spelling and grammatical errors. This may take a bit of time, as researching is not something that you can do quickly, but it is well worth the effort if you are serious about your blog.
2. Link, link, link
A great way to increase traffic on your website, as well as search engine optimization, while still giving your readers more of a reason to read your blog, is to provide links. By taking keywords in your blog posts and turning them into links to related webpages, whether those be similar articles on a different website or links to a fellow blogger who will link back to your blog, you will increase the number of clicks your blog gets as well as provide readers with a number of useful sources of information. Another way of doing this is by linking to previous blogs you have written on the topic. A clear example of this is on 12 Keys Rehab’s blog post titled “Drugs and the Genetic Code,” where they use the words “develop an addiction” to link back to a previous post about getting help for addiction.
3. Don’t try too hard
As per tip #1, having solid content is important, but blog posts are not meant to be scholarly essays on an issue that drone on for pages and pages. They should consist of short, concise paragraphs that are easy to scan for key information, as most readers are only interested in doing just that. Using images and bullet points are great ways to keep readers interested as they are quick to read through.
4. Social Media is worth using
With the entire world on social media networks, it is important to make use of the ability to share materials, as that is how your blog will reach the majority of its viewers. Make sure that all of your posts can be shared on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and any other social media network you can think of. The more the merrier.
5. Consider Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search engines are definitely changing, but it is still important to think about how to make sure your blog appears in them as much as possible. The best way to do this is by bolding keywords throughout your posts, particularly ones that have to do with the content, as it is those keywords that, when searched, will bring up your blog. The best way to make a keyword is by using it as a link to another page or website.
