Google Calendar: Three Ways That It Can Supercharge Your Blogging!

Most bloggers come into blogging with an endless amount of energy! This energy is ultimately what drives the internet. At any given moment there are thousands of pieces of content that are generated, which invariably compete against one another. Eventually, this energy is often either dissipated or destroyed altogether. There is one invaluable resource that is free of charge, which may make all the difference in your chances of succeeding as a blogger: Google Calendar. I will share with you three ways that you can use Google Calendar to meet your blogging goals.

First Way to Use Google Calendar: Scheduling Your Tasks

Blogging is hard work. There is Search Engine Optimization, guest blogging, commenting and countless other tasks that you need to accomplish. Many bloggers treat blogging as if it were a side priority only to be shocked by the less than stellar results. I like to use Google Calendar to schedule my blogging events. I then know that as long as I stick to the prescribed schedule, I will have results that I can be proud of. You can do this by simply choosing events, which you know that you will have to do. You can then devote blocks of time to these events within Google calendar. Once you have done so you can even color coordinate them, as well as set email reminders. Ultimately, this gives you the regularity, which is necessary in order to succeed at blogging.

Second Way to Use Google Calendar: Managing Teams

As your website grows you may take on additional writers. These writers need to know what their deadlines are. I find that the easiest way to synchronize tasks is to create an event and then to send invites to the event.  You are then able to gauge the contributions of your partners and give them constructive feedback in a predictable way. The regularity and predictability of feedback is one of the surest ways to ensure that your blog is able to grow over time.

Third Way to Use Google Calendar: Creating Growth Goals and Comparables

Successful blogs are run like businesses with goals that are clear and measurable. The question that often comes up is how do you measure the effectiveness of the goals that you set? Blogging is a very ambiguous task, some websites rank and some don’t. Some websites draw traffic and some don’t. How do I know what a realistic goal is?

I like to use a period of time –for example a month- and then create a measurement. One measurement that you can use is: how many unique visitors on a given day in a month? Another metric could be: what was my profit for the prior three month period? You are now, perhaps asking, what role does Google Calendar play in all of this?

I like to use Google Calendar to set dates in which to check these statistics. It helps by keeping me from becoming discouraged. I am able to check in and see trends instead of the sometimes depressing smaller day to day details. You can even set reminders in which to forward these statistics to your team: in order to increase their buy in.

Conclusion:

Ultimately, Google Calendar is as useful a tool as you allow it to be. You must carefully plan out your day and weeks in advance to ensure regularity. It then goes without saying that you must adhere to your schedule. As always I am curious to hear your thoughts on Google Calendar and the ways in which you schedule your blogging events.
