How to Promote Site with Email Marketing

Email marketing is painful, and it is not the fault of the legitimate marketing body. It is the fault of people who push marketing on us. Government officials have visited Britain and seen the way that the British have started a vicious attack on unsolicited advertising. Door-to-door sales are all but illegal, so is email marketing unless it is strictly “Okayed” by the recipient, and telemarketing is very difficult to do legally. State officials have seen this and have started to copy it, which is going to make your job very difficult in some states.

Some spam emails are still sent (illegally), and some marketing phone calls are still slipping the net. But, you do not want to be one that slips the net. You want to be the one that remains within the law so that you do not have to move your office of operations every 5 months. Here are some ways that you may better improve your email marketing campaign, whilst staying in line with every state law.

Call your email campaign a newsletter

What is in a name you ask? It is the difference between agreement and spam. If you ask people to tick a box to agree to receive marketing material and they will refuse every time. But, if you ask people to tick a box to receive your exciting monthly newsletter, and people will be slightly more inclined to agree.

Set up a dual agree system

This is how you avoid a lot of the laws that annoyed government officials have set up. What you must remember is that government officials are just people, and they are also sick of marketing calls and door-to-door sales people. So they take action to try and stop it from happening. With emails they have tried to make it so that people have to agree to be emailed.

Government officials know that marketers are going to abuse this system and trick people into agreeing. So, if you set up a duel agree system, then you are a little safer from receiving a hefty fine, being shut down, or even prosecuted and serving time (some states have gotten even tougher than the Europeans).

All you do is plainly and clearly ask the user to indicate if he or she would like to receive your newsletter. After they submit their answer, you tell them what the newsletter is all about and how great it is (briefly) and then ask them to click the button if they are sure they wish to agree to receive your newsletter.

With a system such as the one just detailed, it proves that you have taken all due-diligence, and it is going to be almost impossible for any court to claim you are tricking people into receiving your newsletter.

One of the ways that the duel agree system will fail you, is if you personally run a list of emails through the system to make it look as if people signed up.

Stay out of the junk mail file with an email account confirmation

This is a fantastic idea, with a mild drawback. The drawback is that you are going to lose some email subscribers. Some people are too lazy or too pressed for time to confirm their email address, and so will not bother.

This technique involves letting people sign up and then emailing them a confirmation code that they have to click in order to activate their account. It often has people check their emails and pull your email out of the junk folder and into their inbox. You then have a clear line of sight to their inbox every time you send them a message. No longer will you have to sit beside spam emails in the junk folder.

Ask people to enter a competition and confirm their answers via email

This is another way of promoting yourself via email without being prosecuted for spam. People can enter your competition if they agree to receive your newsletter. You can use the convenient excuse that of the newsletter announcing the winner. With this technique you also have the option of getting people to look at your newsletter because they want to see if they won or not.
