Infographic: There’s an App for That and Why You Should Care

As business owners, we need every possible advantage. Competition in the business world is fierce, and if you’re not offering your clients something they want, they’ll find it elsewhere.

Creating an app to add value for clients has become a point of interest for a lot of companies. If you keep up-to-date with the latest marketing news, you know that apps are being touted as a way for businesses to widen their profit margins.

But are apps really that valuable for your business? In this post, we’ll look at when and why businesses should consider creating an app.

We’re a Society that Loves Apps

Tech Jury wanted to understand how seriously our society takes apps. They found that the average user has 80 apps on their phone at any given time. Users spend around about 198 minutes a day using apps. In other words, we’re a society that loves apps.

You can find out more about what they found in their infographic.

There’s a Caveat Here, Though

Most people have 80 apps on their phones, but they only use about 9 daily and 30 in a month. What accounts for such a discrepancy? Could it be because some apps are glitchy? That’s possible, but those apps would definitely be uninstalled quickly enough.

Could it be because the app is not very useful? That could also be the case. Of course, there are some apps that people do find helpful but only use occasionally.

Let’s say, for instance, I download an app from a major department store. I might check it once a week to see the latest specials or toward the end of the month to view my current balance. Apps can be useful but not used often.

Useful Apps Get the Most Use

Think about the apps that you use the most. Which apps are they? In my case, I have an app that allows me to check my email, another for the weather, and a Facebook app, among others.

If as a business owner, you want to create an app that will get a lot of playtime, you need to make sure that it’s something useful to your clients. Ask yourself the question “Is this app going to help make someone’s life better today?”

It could be something as simple as an easy way to access account balances, store coupons, or answers to basic questions. Or you could go a step further and create a useful tool. An example of this could be an app that allows users to upload a photo to try out different hairstyles.

It could also be something that is regularly updated with new tutorials. You get the basic idea.

The Benefits for Your Company

Let’s say that your app incorporates a chat robot. Clients are able to receive answers to simple questions such as “What time do you open?” A major benefit is improving your client’s user experience but also saving your staff time and effort.

Your customers won’t call if they can get the answers they need on an app. In this way, a well-designed app benefits both the company and the client.
