How to Recover Unsaved Word Document

1. Use the Automatic Recovery Function.

Word 2000/XP can automatically recover the unsaved data. You only need to click on the “tools” tab to select “options” command. And then click the “save” button, and tick the “auto save interval” check box, and type the time interval in the “minutes” box to determine the automatic save time of Word 2000/XP file. The shorter the time, the Word 2000/XP save the document will be more frequent, and more information will be restored also. In general, we set the time to 1 minute.

After the above settings, all the Word documents which are shut down due to sudden power outage will be shown up when you start it next time. Then you can save them. But before replacing the original document, please verify that the recovery file contains the information you need, and don’t overwrite your original file.

2. Let the Document Automatic Backup.

If our documents can have a backup when they are preserved, undoubtedly it will be more secured. In the Word 2000/XP, we can set to let it backs up the documents.

Click on the “tools” menu and select “options” command, then hit on the “save” tab and tick off the “backup retention” check box, then click “OK”. After the settings, Word 2000/XP will automatically save documents backup.

3. Restore the Text in A Damaged Document.

Sometimes when we attempt to open a document, but the computer has no respond for a long time. This means the document may be damaged. At this moment, you also don’t need to worry. Because the next time you start Word 2000/XP, Word 2000/XP will automatically use the special file recovery converter to restore the text in damaged document. And you can also feel free to open the damaged document and restore the text in it with the file converter. And the operation is also very simple:

Also click on the “tools” menu and select “options” command, and then click the “general” tab and tick off the “open and confirm conversion” check box, and then click “OK”. Then hit on the “open” button, and click “recover text from any file” option in the “File type” box. And now you can successfully open the damaged document, and it can be saved as Word format or any other format (for example, text format or HTML format).
