The Samsung Tocco Lite – The Full Story

The Samsung Tocco Lite took the world by storm upon its first release, but is far from being outdated; the Tocco still makes a great little phone, especially for smartphone beginners. In this article we are giving you the full Tocco story, so that you can decide whether or not it is for you.

What the Samsung Tocco Lite Looks Like

The Samsung Tocco Lite is a wee little thing, especially when compared to some of the huge smartphones on the market these days. This is to its advantage though, since the Tocco is easy to carry around with you, and can be slipped comfortably into your pocket, even when you are wearing the tightest jeans. Looks-wise, the Tocco is very similar to most Samsung budget models (more about those here).

The traditional model is black, with silver accents. There is a full touch screen, and a series of physical home buttons at the bottom of the screen. The back panel can be removed, giving you handy battery access, and the sides have the normal volume and power buttons. There is a pink version of the Tocco available though, for those who like a little more style and individuality in their mobile hand set.

The Tocco is just ten by five centimetres, so it really is tiny, and it is a little more than a centimetre thick. In weight, it is only 93 grams, so this truly is a portable phone which you won’t even notice when it is in your pocket.

What Kind of Performance it Gets

The Tocco is a budget phone, so you are not getting full smartphone features here, but that does not mean that you do not get nice performance either. This is not a full smartphone, so it does not need a massive or fast processor, but you still get some specs.

The phone is a touch screen model, making the Tocco a real niche product. It is a traditional mobile, rather than a smartphone, and yet it has a touch screen. The majority, if not all of the traditional mobile models on the market, are physical keypad phones, so the Tocco gives you the traditional phone you need plus a touch screen experience, so it is truly unique.

The screen is a three inch display, showing 256k colours and with 240 by 400 pixels, so it has nice resolution. You get a great camera too. It has a 3.2 MP camera which also has a 4X digital zoom for nice close up shots. There are even different shot modes on the camera, so you can take continuous shots, panoramic pictures, and even smile shots where the camera shutter does not open until a smile is detected.

There are also effect modes with the camera, so you can get black and white or sepia shots, for example. You can also do minimal photo editing on the camera, including frames and even adding clip art. This is truly one of the best budget mobile cameras around.

When it comes to internal memory, you are looking at 102 MB. The Samsung Tocco Lite does take a regular SD card though, and with this you can add up to 16 GB of external memory, which is a lot of space to store your pictures or even music.

Finally, the Tocco has no real Internet connectivity (though there is a Wi-Fi model available), which makes it the perfect children’s phone, since you won’t need to worry about your kids getting online and seeing inappropriate content or accessing chat programmes or social media sites without your permission.

What About the Fun Stuff?

The Tocco Lite is loaded down with great programs for you to use, so you will never get bored with your new phone!

The on board media player is one of the best we have ever seen on a traditional budget phone, which should certainly make kids happy at least. It does support MP3 files, which is important in this day and age, and will allow you to keep a music library as well, plus it has 3D sound technology for great sound quality.

What else do you get? There is the usual plethora of games, of course, as well as plenty of customisation choices, including wallpapers. There is also a document viewer and the phone is capable of mobile printing. Of course, the Tocco has full voicemail services too.

When it comes to phone features, the Tocco has everything which you would expect. It is capable of functioning as a speaker phone as well. You can also manage your call times, so the phone will alert you after certain time periods, or, in the case of a child using the phone, can even cut a call off after a certain period of time.

What Will You Pay?

The Samsung Tocco Lite is really a great budget deal, and you should not expect to pay too much for it. Depending on where you are buying, prices vary between around £50 and around £70, so you really are getting a great deal here. Considering that most touch screen phones are going to cost you at least double this price, the Tocco is a sweet bargain.

Who Is It Aimed At?

There are a couple of great markets for the Tocco. The first, as we mentioned, is the children’s market. The Tocco simply makes the ideal kid’s phone, since it has plenty of features for kids, including the great media player and camera, whilst it is safe for them to use and not a big investment. Plus, the Tocco is a touch screen phone, just like Mum’s and Dad’s!

The other clear market for the Tocco is going to be the older user. Older users often do not want all the bells and whistles of a real smartphone, and find such features overwhelming. For these people, the Tocco will offer the great performance and level of service they are looking for without the confusing operation which so many other phones will have.

The Tocco Lite is a great buy as a first phone or as a phone for grandparents, and with prices like these, you are getting a great deal for your cash.
