Tips on Selling used Smartphones

Nowadays everybody has a phone and many even own a smartphone. You buy one of these devices, thinking how well it will serve you and how much fun you are going to have with it. You want to get rid of your smartphone and handle it to someone that will appreciate it. The best outcome will be if you manage to sell it and get money for a new handset.

But how is this done? How do you convince somebody to buy your used phone 0r smartphones, especially if there’s something that you don’t like about it? In this article we are going to give you some tips on how to sell your old gadget. Keep reading.

1. First off, think about what you want.

Do you want to get rid of the phone fast and sell it to the first person who offers you a small amount of money or would you rather get the most of it? Depending on what your goal is you can use a number of methods on the Internet. For example, you can promote your device to SellYourCell.com, Swappa.co, Gazelle.com, eBay or even Facebook. Don’t underestimate social medias! If you casually say in a post that your phone is for sale, who knows what might happen? Not to mention, Facebook has Marketplace now. Not to mention,  you can check out uSell. This site compares different sites and tells you where you will get the best price for your handset.

And yet, the best way to sell your phone for as much money as possible would be to sell it directly to a person and not use those trade-in sites. Have in mind, however, that there are some risks here as well.

2. Don’t waste time!

If new versions of your phone are just around the corner, you’d better hurry up or your device’s value may decrease. The sooner you arrange for a deal, the better. Key factor here is the timing. Typically, a phone’s value is decreased 3 to 4 weeks before the launch of the new version.

3. Think about the price.

You surely want to sell your handset for the highest price possible but considering it is already used, you will have to go down a bit. Even if the device is undamaged and looks brand new, you won’t be able to sell it for the price you’re expecting. Make sure you research prices well. Check out eBay, Amazon or Craigslist to see what the current cost is. This will help you to set a more reasonable price.

4. Be careful not to get scammed!

If you are going to ship the handset to another person, make sure they pay and send the device after you have verified that the money is transferred to your account. Don’t send the item prematurely! There are many frauds out there who will gladly take advantage of your imprudence.

5. Be sure to store your data somewhere else and clear it from the device.

Have in mind the tons of personal information you will provide the buyer with if you don’t clear it. You should sign out of Facebook, Twitter, Skype, email and other accounts you have. Make sure you back up all the important data and transfer it to another device. When you are done, the next step is to do a factory reset. This option is usually found in Settings.
