8 Simple Tips for Increasing Facebook Traffic to Your Blog
4 minutes | Word Count: 776The best and brightest Facebook marketers have never had a higher conversion rate than around 25%. Basically that means that even the best Facebook posts have only ever been able to tempt 25 people out of 100 to click the link on the post and go to the other website. More commonly, you will find that 0% to 3% of Facebook post viewers will convert from a Facebook viewer to a website/blog viewer.
These sorts of numbers may not seem worth their while, and on quite a few fronts, you would be right. However, there are two redeeming features, with the first being that traffic from Facebook is free, as all you really lose is time. Secondly, the traffic you pull from Facebook has the potential to be much targeted. People enter their demographic information and their “like” and this information can be used for better Facebook targeting. So, here are a few tips to help you convert a bit of your Facebook traffic into blog traffic.
Step #1 – Give a preview to your blog posts
Do not paste your entire blog post onto Facebook, but do give people a taste of it. You can show people a few of the most poignant parts of it, or you can show people the title and the introduction. You can even do the trick of starting the with a question on Facebook, using your blog preview to answer some of the question, and then install a “keep reading” link that links to your blog.
Step #2 – Post teasers on next week’s blog post
You can tell people what next week’s blog post is going to be like. However, it is far more interesting and attractive if you ask people a question. You ask the edge of your seat question, and put the answer as “find out next week.” This is a nice little teaser for next week’s blog post.
Step #3 – Start a discussion on your blog topic and then refer people to it
You need to start a discussion that you can relate to your blog. You need to bring up a topic of conversation that will get people talking on your website. You then need to keep the fire burning by getting as many people included in the conversation as possible. You then refer to your blog post as your full argument on the issue, and people can read it so that they may agree or disagree with what you say.
Step #4 – Use Facebook as a notification system for new blog posts
Basically, you use your Facebook profile as little like it is an RSS feed. In other words, when you post a new blog post, you add a post to your Facebook profile to tell the world about your newest blog post.
Step #5 – Take suggestions for topics and advertise the subsequent new post
People may be more inclined to visit and read your blog post if they had a hand in it. Creating a blog title is not much of a hand in your creative process, but it is a start. Plus, you could ask for a number of suggestions and then not tell people which one you picked so that they have to check your blog to see which one you picked.
Step #6 – It could just be a numbers game
The fact is that some people may simply not visit your blog until they have seen 100 of your Facebook posts about it. It may simply be that one day, for no reason, they suddenly decide to follow your Facebook link to your blog.
Step #7 – Install a Facebook comment system on your blog
This is where people are able to make a comment on your blog, but only if they sign in to their Facebook profile. This is inconvenient at any rate, but the redeeming feature is that most comment box widgets have a check box that is already crossed. This check box says “post to Facebook”, which means that the comment will be posted onto the user’s profile if he or she does not un-check the box.
Step #8 – Install a Facebook Like widget on your blog
This is a widget that people can click if they are willing to sign into their Facebook account. It will then count up all the Facebook likes it accumulates over the weeks. There is also a function where people can post their “like” to their Facebook profile. This will mean that others will see the blog “like” and may follow the links to find out what all the fuss is about.
