How Valuable Is Google PageRank
4 minutes | Word Count: 688What is Google PageRank?
Google PageRank is a trademark of Google and is an algorithm for calculating the importance, value and authority of a certain web page, compared to the rest of the pages online. When all the other factors, such as the content of the web page, the “Title” tag and the keywords are taken into account, Google uses its PageRank in order to correct the results of the search in a way that puts the more authoritative web pages up in the search results. Nowadays PageRank is considered one of the most important criteria about the quality and value of a certain website. The higher its rank is, the more reliable the website is considered.
The grades for Google PageRank are numbers from 0 to 10, and the measuring scale is a logarithmic one. Here is how the algorithm works:
- Finding all pages that correspond to the search keywords
- Ranging of the pages depending on different factors
- Taking into account the content and the links of the web pages
- Correcting the results of the search with the PageRank data
How is PageRank determined?
The theory of Google says that if page A contains a hyperlink to page B, then page A considers page B an important one. The text of the hyperlink is not used by PageRank. On the other hand, Google PageRank also has an influence on the importance of the web page’s hyperlinks.
How important is Google PageRank to Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Google is a search engine which uses more than 200 ranking parameters, and although Google PageRank is only one of them it still plays an important part in the process of ranking a certain web page.
The importance and value of each separate factor in the algorithms of the search engine machine depends on the quality of the information that is provided by a certain web page. If we go back in time in the first years of Google’s existence we can’t mention the fact that a hyperlink towards a web page was a sign for recommendation. However, nowadays this is not exactly so, because of two main reasons:
1. The Internet has tremendously changed, which means that today hyperlinks are considered more or less a linked websites, license requirements or response services than independent recommendations.
2. In the very moment when a search engine machine looks upon the hyperlinks as recommendations, there are always people who start influencing on these hyperlinks. From this moment on they stop being pure recommendations.
This is exactly why the reliability of the information secured by the hyperlinks used ceases to be necessarily reliable. This is the main reason why Google PageRank’s importance becomes smaller when it comes to Google algorithms there days.
However, Google PageRank has a vindicatory property, which makes it considerably harder to be influenced on than any other ranking factor. This means that Google PageRank has the ability to give you a certain advantage before your competitors when used in combination with some other search engine optimization techniques.
However, no matter how valuable PageRank is, you should always remember that optimization made only for Google PageRank does not help you get a better outcome of the search engine optimization process. The very nature of this factor is such that it makes it relatively hard to manipulate with.
In conclusion, as we have already mentioned, Google PageRank is a topic that is quite misunderstood. It is a trademark of Google and is an algorithm of calculating how important certain web page is. However, the very mechanism of its work is not revealed to the public. The public values of PageRank are officially updated several times a year. In the same time the “internal” values of PageRank are constantly being calculated.
The search engine machines’ algorithms are constantly changed and updated, which means that web optimizers should be always well-aware of the current changes in the ranging ways of web pages.

Page Rank stopped being of any indication of ranking at least 5 years back. We use it only to check Page Rank of external sites where we may be having no-follow links.
Pretty useful article.
So I don’t have to be worried that my blog has been public for ~3 months and still says N/A when I put it in Google page rank?
