How to Start a Blog

Still, even the most jaded tech enthusiast should sit back every once in awhile and really bask in the overwhelming scale of it all. With hundreds of millions of new people gaining internet access every year, and total global internet access to exceed 50% sometime in 2016 or 2017, the numbers don’t seem quite real. Even more so when we’re reminded that the internet only recently celebrated its twentieth birthday.

What’s also surprising, though, is how many people out there don’t have sites or any major internet presence of their own.

There are hundreds of millions of blogs, run by millions of bloggers. If you’re tired of sitting on the sidelines, and wondering if it’s time to start your first site, well, we think the answer is a big, huge, resounding YES!

We’re a bit biased, of course, but that doesn’t mean we’re wrong. In the below infographic, we’ll take a look at how many blogs there are, who’s using them, and what they’re using them for. We’ll also take a quick peek at all those awesome numbers. First Site Guide has put together an infographic laying out all the basic numbers and science of blogging, some of which are absolutely mind-boggling.

The above infographic also shows you the numbers and strategy behind successful promotion, from titles to content, and beyond. We’ll tell you why you need images, how often you should post, how to leverage social media, and all the other details you need in order to get your first site up and off the ground at top speed. For example, what’s better at putting eyes on your blog, Twitter of Facebook? When is the best time to post on each network?

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers. And later you’ll have more questions, and we’ll try to answer those, too. It’s not easy to learn the ropes when you start your first site, and we don’t have time or space to teach you everything you need to know in an infographic, but right here’s a great place to start.

Good luck, and good blogging!
